While they may have never been international stars, it's hard to doubt the poetic genius that Warrior Soul produced over the years, and it's hard to imagine that it has almost been twenty years since the band exploded onto the scene with their debut 'Last Deacde Dead Century', which forms the main focus of tonights set.
The band has changed over the years, this incarnation features only Korey Clarke from the bands original lineup, but that's the important part of this particular recipe. His acerbic wit and cynical outlook are what drive the band forward, and more importantly it is his enthusiasm that keeps the show rolling.
The Underworld is on fire when the band hit the stage, and Clarke is on fine form as he rattles through the songs on tonights set list. What's remarkable is quite how well aged the album is, and while tonight is essentially a launch pad for the bands live album which was recorded at last years show just down the road at the Purple Turtle and now released as Live In London, the focus is really on the quality of the material.
This was probably not the best gig anyone on the stage has ever played, but what matters is that they are here at all. Only a few years ago it would have been beyond even the most diehard fan to think that they would be stood hearing this album played live. Trippin On Ecstasy is a classic, and tonights performance highlights that.
Give it up for Korey Clarke. He's back once again. He's still a cynic, he still has a outside view of the world, and he still rocks like hell.
