As they take to the stage at the Underworld tonight, King Lizard do so as one of the biggest up and coming rock bands to come out of the UK in years. They've just got back from a stunning performance at this years Bloodstock festival, they're playing to a near sold out crowd tonight, things are really looking up for them, and with good reason.
As they smash through their set tonight, we're treated to a performance that so clearly highlights everything that is missing in most of the UK's bands these days, they simply don't know how to headline. King Lizard thankfully do not suffer from this strange condition, this is not the same set you would see if the band were supporting, but tonight they are the stars. We're treated to a superb guitar solo from Niro Knox, and one he obviously enjoys to no end; bassist Alice throws us some bass riffs, even drummer Sky gets his chance as the band give a clear showing to everyone here tonight that they really are the real deal.
And all that before we even talk about the songs themselves, and King Lizard do have some really catchy songs, and front man flash delights in getting the crowd singing along with him to the likes of 'Straight Outta Hell' and 'Rock And Roll Me', and from start to finish it's superb.
The rest of the UK underground should take note, this is how you headline, this is how you play rock n roll, and I don't expect to be seeing King Lizard playing small venues like this for that much longer.
