It's a confusing mix of trepidation and excitement emanating around the Scala in London's Kings Cross when Manchester's rock and roll disasters Dear Superstar shamble onto the stage in front of a hugely power metal dominated crowd, - not surprising of course, what with the band opening for Greek titans Firewind - and one that on the surface is very much unreceptive to the bands balls out, booze swigging, drug fueled fuck you rock n roll.
With the band recently signed to Demolition Records, and with more big tours on the horizon, the questions of how good these boys are going to be. Throw in a passive crowd, and it's a breath of fresh air that the band storm into their set without a care in the world.
Live, Dear Superstar retain all of their Motley Crue influences that the band aren't afraid to shy away from, but live, the band have seemingly brought half of the Cruefest to the stage, a melting pot that mixes the sleazyness of the Crue and Buckcherry with the power and bile of Papa Roach.
More so, vocalist Micky Satiar has no qualms about berating his audience, drawing them into the web of the performance, when one remarks derogatorily about the bottle of port he's swigging from, the bottle is passed much to the reluctance of said fan who attempts to refuse, only for Satiar to insist, and proving that this band know what they're doing, they're not afraid to be dominant, and certainly not intimidated about playing outside of what would be their safe lineups with similar sounding bands.
The band will release their second album - Heartless - in October, and with a rumoured support slot with Finnish rock legends Hanoi Rocks on the horizon, are on course to become, if not a household name, the UK's premiere rock and roll debauchery titans.
