It's a sparse night at the Underworld in Camden when Cambridge Progsters Awake hit the stage. Sparse it may be but those in attendance are in for a treat, and move forward as the band hit the stage.
Drawing heavily from the bands latest album Illumination, they blast through their set with a presence that emphasises what a shame tonights turn out is. When a band are billed as the saviors of British Progressive Metal and the UK's Evergrey expectations are going to be high, you want to hear something special, and the bands new album live certainly manages to live up to, at least in part, to the hype.
The new album sounds so much better live, and front man Simon Shedwell does his utmost to keep tonights crowd entertained and involved in the show, but what really sells tonights performance is the passion and belief that all of the band show for their music. They believe, and that makes the whole process so much better for the fans in the crowd tonight.
A great performance indeed, and such a shame that the Underworld was so echoy and mostly empty. I'd like to hope that by the time the band roll through London again, they'll be playing to a much better audience.
