Vengeance are a Dutch hard rock band who are well known for their riffs. This album has riffs aplenty. Great rythm section with Barend Courbois on bass and Erik Stout on drums. There's also Father and son guitar team of Jan and Timo Somers. We also can't forget the mighty throaty voice of Leon Gowie. "Cross In The Rain" is a decent track to start but the album really starts for me on track 2. "Wait Until The Sun Goes Down" is the type of track that typifies Vengeance. Heavy, heavy riffs and great guitars.
There are in my opinion a couple of filler tracks on Soul Collector. The aforementioned "Cross In The Rain" is decent but not up to the standard of most of the tracks on this album. The same can be said of "Myspace Freak". Take a listen to the title track though. This for me is the stand out track. It's like a cross between AC/DC, Krokus and Accept! Any of those bands wouldn't sound out of place playing it.
Other standout tracks for me are "Samurai", a very Arabian Nights type of song. "Dance Dance Dance" and the excellent power ballad "What The Hell". This really is an awesome song and it (along with Soul Collector) has been repeating on my cd player for the last 2 days!
When I picked up the cd and saw that it was produced by none other than Michael Voss of Mad Max and Bonfire fame I knew it was going to be a good one. In my opinion this album is a small step forward from their last studio album "Back in the Ring" but I do think that it's one that will grow more on me over time.
