Junk Rock... For Lovers

Editor review

Exploding onto the airwaves in bubblegum covered glitter ball of sleazy goodness, Pittsburgh's Cosmosonics debut album Junk Rock... For Lovers hits you hard and fast, and for 13 tracks hardly gives you a chance to catch your breath.

Throw the New York Dolls, Tigertailz, The Quireboys and Poison into a blender, whiz it around for a while, and what's left is going to give you a vague idea of who the Cosmosonics are. From the happy go lucky sounds of 'Rave It Up', complete with the screams of the arena crowd that these boys may one day be standing in front of, to the sleaze dripping Quireboys Esq ditty of 'Bubblegum Blues' which wouldn't have been out of place on 'A Little Bit of What You Fancy', this is 13 tracks to keep the party going all night long.

The more blues orientated sound that the Quireboys made famous really works for these boys, 'Skinpop 19' coming across more punky than a lot of the other tracks on the album, only for a harmonica to cut through shattering that particular illusion, and with a huge sing-a-long chorus, you just know this one is a live favorite.

'I Luv Hollywood' sends you on your way, the final song on the album, an acoustic tribute to the Strip, complete with such stonking lines as 'My friends saw Good Charlotte and the Rainbow Bar, walked right up and punched them in the jaw, then I saw Lemmy at the 7/11, is this a dream or rock n roll heaven.' This could have been a Dogs D'Amour classic, sung like Tyla would (well as close as anyone can sing like Tyla...), and a superb closer.

Junk Rock... For Lovers is a superb debut effort, and one that should launch the Cosmosonics on the road to rapid, and huge success. Whether they get there, time will tell, but go out and buy this one.
