When I was asked to do some reviews for one or more album releases I didn't hesitate to take on Symphony X to start with. After first listen to their new album I went all blank, what to say about this album? What to say about the band and the production as a whole?
Now 2 days later.. I am down to two things. I will buy the album once made available in store and secondly, I am looking forward to see them live in September as support band for Dream Theater here in Sweden.
First track Oculus ex Inferni This track kind of reminds me of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and that in a good way, I like Carmina Burana a lot. The rest of the tracks on the album are great, both as a mixture of technique and lyrics. Vocal performance is excellent, guitars are having a raw "attitude" without being overdone or overproduced. Drums are also excellent as is the rest of the instruments.
The Band:
Michael James Romeo - Guitars
Jason Rullo - Drums
Michael Pinnella - Keyboards
Michael Anthony LePond III - Bass guitar
Russell Allen - Vocalist

Highly recommending anyone who is listening to Dream Theater, Fates warning and Pain of salvation. Any other progressive fans may also find this album and the band very interesting. And as wikipedia.org also include in their description of the band, any Yngwie Malmsteen and/or Randy Rhoads fans may find this band interesting due to their neo-classical metal parts.
So keep eyes open when you visit your local (or internet) music store on June 26, give it a go, am sure you will find the money spent on buying this album well spent.
