If you read reviews on Komodo Rock regularly, you will know that I do not claim to know the slightest thing about thrash/hardcore/speed or anything-loud-and-nasty Metal. Write-ups about Sworn Enemy state that this is their "most brutal assault" yet, and yup, it's pretty brutal.
However, it is worth noting that this band are in the middle of a huge American tour at the moment, and have in the past supported bands such as Slipknot, Slayer and Sepultura. That's some pedigree, and for this reason I can safely assume they are pretty good at what they do.
From a technical point of view, duelling guitars courtesy of Lorenzo and Jamin create a fuller sound than in other similar thrash/hardcore bands I have heard, giving the brutality a less 'tinny' quality and making it easier on the ears. For the likes of me, that is. Those among you who like your ears chainsawed may find it a little bland.
Fair credit, though, the drumming is exceptional, J-Rad killing his kit with each stroke. I can't hear the bass but I CAN feel it, so I know Sid is doing his job just right - and I know they'd be worth seeing live if only for the vibrations in the floor!
For its genre, totally superb. Me? I'm gonna slope off and listen to some Sinatra... sad.
