Diamond Skin

French rockers the Sparkling Bombs pay homage to their influences on their EP 'Diamond Skin', showing the world that glitter isn't dead, it was just grabbing a quick breather, before heading to the bar for another Jack and Coke.

The seven tracks here are solid, very old school sounding glitter glam, certainly in the vein of Hanoi Rocks and the New York Dolls, and in more recent times you can draw some fairly solid similarities between them and Canada's favourite sons Robin Black.

It's punky poppy glam assault shows that the band are serious, but musically very tight. They might be French but you would never know, there's no accent here, and that's a good thing, as that could have ruined everything.

It's got good guitars, it's good decent songs, and is certainly a fine introduction to the band, and proves that we may well be talking a lot more about them in the future.

You've got to love Beautiful (Like a Moltov Cocktail) as the highlight of the album too!

A big recommendation on the artwork as well. It's important to me when bands really take the time to go to town on their artwork, and the Sparkling Bombs have just done that, somewhat reminiscent of the kind of stuff Tyla of the Dogs D'Amour was knocking out. Great stuff.
