DioSweden Says
Country of origin: Mexico City, Mexico
I was asked to listen to this album by a friend of mine, since he knows I am a fan of latin rhythms as well as any great guitar play. At the first track started I had to stop, started it from the beginning again. Stop again and then ask my self. How the **** can someone play guitar like that? This started to make me look for more information. CD is a double album (limited edition), with a DVD included, so I switched CD player off and turn to my TV set, loaded up the DVD and
only to find that there's only two playing guitars! And what a technique, couldn't believe it was true. As DVD were played all through, I were back at the menu again, found a video showing how they used their technique both in slow motion (well compared to their normal speed it sure is slow motion) and at full speed. I will stop here, you just have to see and hear this for your self.
Some background information.
Both Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero met as teenagers in Mexico city, both are fans of heavy metal. As members of a band named Tierra Acida they released an album which never became anything even close to a hit. Frustrated they started to take guitar lessons, willing to learn more which eventually payed of in a unique technique and gave them their own sound.
More of their history can be read elsewhere (allmusic.com is one place to go)
I recommend this album as well as their other albums,
to all who is interested in listening to different guitar techniques, as well as to all who like Latin American guitar in general.
Enjoy!!
