Midnight Cowboys - Suicide Circus
As the opening chords of Sick City drift over the stereo, you could almost be forgiven for thinking that Phil Lewis of LA Guns is on vocal duty. This isn't a bad thing, and as the band kick in, vocalist Alvin Spear holds that Lewisesque, dripping in sleaze tone that makes you want to lock up your would be daughters.
The guitars steam, and especially on the final track Hollywood B.L.V.D. you really start to get to grips with who the Cowboys are. They're not trying to recreate the Sunset Strip scene of the 80's, LA Guns comparison excepted, but have more in common with the strong new vein of sleaze bands coming out of Scandinavia. Dirty guitars, nasty bass lines, and songs about getting "too drunk to fuck".
As a debut EP, it shows the Cowboys have the potential to be special, much like Hardcore Superstar, the Babylon Bombs, or even Crashdiet.
Here's hoping that they can carry the sound and attitude live on stage like they have here.
