Old school Brummie melodic progrockers Magnum have been around for some time now. I still remember being played 'Kingdom of Madness' and 'The Spirit' ( disapointingly not included in this set ) when I was14 years old and my then best mate was trying to turn me onto rock. Back then every girl I knew had the cover poster of 'Chase the Dragon' album on their bedroom wall.

Still turning out reliably good studio albums, this double live finds them in fine fettle. CD 1 contains great versions of tracks old and new - but it's really all about celebrating the milestone in their career that was 1988's 'Wings of Heaven' album, performed in it's entirety on disc 2 along with classic track 'Sacred Hour'.  

Magnum have given IMHO their best work to date a live outing befitting the strength of it's songs.

Bob Catley's voice may be showing it's age but still retains all the character of the best storytellers and Tony Clarkin's guitar shines brightly on every track, not least the standout version of 'Wild Sawn'.

I was lucky enough to meet these guys at a signing for 'Wings of Heaven' at my local store and they played a storming gig that night to boot. Listening to this has made me all nostalgic and want to revisit my old vinyl again. Liked this enough to consider hunting out a copy of the dvd.

Thoroughly recommended. Long may Magnum continue to soar.
