Revolutions

With their album 'Revolutions', Liquid Horizon pull no punches as they look at the struggle for freedom at various different points in time, and the progressive metallers have done a fantastic job.

Likened to Vanden Plas and Dream Theater, and living up to that billing, and claiming influence from both Savatage and Dokken, Liquid Horizon will take you on a journey that encompasses both World Wars, a trip to the time of Sparticus, Geronimo standing tall for Indian rights, and to the French Revolution, no mean feat for a band to attempt.

Attempt it they have done, tackling some of histories defining moments, and no doubt with just a little trepidation as they wrote the songs. Travel through the periods of historic struggle depicted here, and you'll walk away at the end of the album feeling that justice has indeed been done to the subject matter, and that Revolutions reminds us all that the struggle for Freedom is an ongoing cause that will always be with us.

Be it German sailors mutinying in 1918 or Spartacus' doomed uprising, victory may not be certain, but Liquid Horizon manage to make us feel, make us understand that sacrifices are made, that even if one fails another will stand tall.

The album ends with a unique trilogy of songs themed around the French Revolution, taking us from before through to the aftermath during the Reign of Terror, which is superb from start to finish.

Prog fans are going to love this album musically, while those who want more than just music but substance will find it here in droves. This is one of the most impressive progressive metal albums to come along in quite some time, and I look forward to hearing where Liquid Horizon will dip their proverbial toes next.
