Sweden's Lions Share are back with a vengance with their 5th outting, Emotional Coma.
Gone are the keyboards, big background vocals and the more progressive side, in comes a more upbeat and energetic hard rock. Joining the band in 2003, but only making his recording debut with the band is Patrick Johansson who has been making waves over the last few years with both Astral Doors and Wuthering Heights, and earning critical acclaim, even being compared to legendary vocalists like Ronnie James Dio and Tony Martin.
Emotional Coma is dark, brooding and traditionally heavy, a good combination, and one that's worked wonders on the album, so much so that you've got guest appearances from both Bruce Kulick of Kiss and Glen Drover of Megadeth, and strong recommendation both of those guests add to the album as a whole. Drover appears on the albums title track, one of the better tracks on the album, albeit one of the more melodic. You could draw comparisons to Paradise Lost on the track, and neither would that be in a negative sense and to top it all off the band throw in a cover of Angel Witch's Sorcerers at the end of the album, almost a suprise when you hear it for the first tme.
Johansson adds a dimension to the band, his voice soaring at times, and crushing you with a doom twinged almost apocalyptic weight at others, and with titles like The Arsonist, The Edge of a Razor and Bloodstained soil pull no punches, but no matter how doom tinged or hard the band play, the production on the album keeps everything in check from start to finish, letting the band shine.
