Spotted in 2005 by well known producer Russ Ballard - who had no idea she was the daughter of Iron Maiden bass man Steve Harris - and after touring extensively in support of Alice Cooper, Nightwish and of course Iron Maiden, Lauren's debut album has finally arrived.
Opening track 'Steal Your Fire' immediately has a feal of 1980's Pat Benetar, which is no bad thing. Guitarist Richie Faulkner quickly pulls out a respectable solo on this track which, had we been in the 1980's would probably have been a big radio friendly hit. Unfortunately things take a dip from there on in.
'Your Turn' wouldn't have made a Pat Benetar B-side, 'Get Over It' would have struggled to make it onto Avril Lavigne's worst album and 'Like It Or Not' strangely reminded me of early Heart - but without any of their class or conviction.
'From The Bottom To The Top' and 'Let Us Be' are pure album filler, which is a real shame as both lead out with another solo from Richie Faulkner. Clearly wasted on this album, he still manages to turn in a creditable performance, showing all too brief touches of class on almost every track - perhaps most notably 'Hurry Up' and 'Come On Over'.
'Hit Or Miss' is for me most definitely the latter, while both 'See Through' and 'You Say' are just plain boring despite the nice guitar work at the end - and closing track 'Natural Thing' will probably have UFO fans spitting feathers.
Ultimately, while her voice does nothing for me, better material would have helped alot - but perhaps it's Lauren's failure to sound like she really believes in what she is singing that lets this album down the most.
Not recommended.
