Khymera - The Greatest Wonder

Way back when in the mists of time Khymerea involved Kansas' Steve Walsh. That was then, and this is now, and 'The Greatest Wonder' marks Khymera's third album, without Steve Walsh, but still with the distinctive keyboards of the legendary Daniele Liverani, the vocal stylings of Pink Cream 69's Dennis Ward.I've been somewhat sceptical of late of some the latest European Melodic Rock, and many will no doubt be expecting the same from me here, and I hate to disappoint, but I'm afraid I'm about to! 'The Greatest Wonder' is actually really rather good. Where other melodic rock albums have just seemed to lack, for lack of a better term, balls, this doesn't. Where other albums have sounded so perfectly produced they sound like they could have been made in a lab, this doesn't. This sounds rich, it's sounds meaty, it sounds like a band that care about the songs they're writing.
We all know how good Liverani is, we've all heard his work on any number of other releases, but I really feel that he is the key here. His keyboards give the entire album the rich sound that everything else plays off of, and of course where Liverani plays, he seems to always produce as well, and with Khymera it is no different. It's certainly possible that he might well be one of the most underrated producers in the melodic world today, everyone only thinks him as a player.
Throw this album on, and you won't regret it.
