Such is the power of Glyder to impress and entertain with their solid gold classic rock sound. The blood of Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott flows in their veins and they were born to play the music inspired by their heroes. As they continue to tour and play in places as far away as India in order to keep the momentum going on the release front, they have given us ‘Weather the Storm’. This five track EP features, in the words of guitar player Bat Kinane; “five songs that didn’t have a home”.
These are tracks of which the band are rightly proud but didn’t quite fit with the sets they put together for the albums. Thus we can enjoy the Doors tinged ‘Brewin’ up a Storm’ with its delicious punctuation of Glyder’s Lizzy inspired guitar harmonies. ‘Love Never Dies’ is inspired by the Francis Ford Coppola movie “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” and is harmoniously atmospheric. ‘Weather the Storm’ is an epic in the vein of Led Zeppelin’s ‘No Quarter’ with a heart beat of the blues. ‘Fill your head with Rock’ is the rocker of the piece (there’s a shocker!) and is classic 70’s style Brit/ Irish hard rock.
To round things off ‘Lay Down’ comes jiving out of left field full of rockin’ and rollin’ Elvis meets Gallagher exuberance. On the sleeve notes ‘Weather the Storm’ is defined (according to the Cambridge Dictionary of American Idiom no less) as; “To continue to exist and not be harmed during a difficult period”. As Glyder continue to weather the storm of music business indifference, the word continues to spread among those who know, love and care about good music. On the up side, the longer they run their own company their own way, the more they learn about how the business works and the stronger they become to weather the storm of success which will surely come their way.
Glyder understand the very “essence” of rock music and ‘Weather the Storm’ will not only keep their fans happy until the next album but shows the breadth of their musical references. Get your copy at: www.glydermusic.com
