second album, "Face Of Adversisty" upon the world. When your own press bills you as Iron Maiden meets Rush you've got a lot to live up to, so what does Face of Adversity bring to the table?
Throw it on and, yes, you can hear the influences there. There are prog rock guitar solos, there's a more classic rock vocal, and then there's momments where Fury UK hit a more melodic cum progressive metal stride like in the latter half of 'Natural Disaster', and to be fair it's not that bad at all. Vocalist Chris Appleton, as you listen to him for the first time, just doesn't seem to fit the music he's singing. It does get better as the album goes on, and certainly is much improved on the second listen, but that first impression is left lacking. It's hard to put your finger on just what makes him slightly inaccesable that first time through, perhaps it's just that with the music I was expecting a stronger more powerfull voice.
What's great to see on the album though, is a band really trying to dig deep, and write songs from the heart, songs that mean something. It doesn't work every time, but then you can't expect it to, but it gives the album some real depth, which makes it better on the second or third listen than it had the first time it span round the cd player.
