Swedish Melodic Metallers Dogpound are back with their third album, named simply III.
It's been two years since the bad launched their much lauded second album 'A Night In The Gutter' on the world, and those two years have been kind to Dogpound. They've come back with better production, and perhaps a better idea of where they wanted to take the album.
On the new album, Dogpound have edged a little closer to the heavier end of the spectrum than fans might have been used to on earlier outings, but in my opinion certainly this has done them no harm at all. The melodies are still here, Henrik Andersson doing a superb vocal duties, especially evident on Blind. It's heavy, it has a really moshing beat to it, but no matter how heavy the guitars are, Andersson sings over and threw it with power.
And with that said, there are songs like Born A Winner on the album, which shows the diverse influences the band have, a much more mellow sound, more rocky, but executed so well, and in fact my pick as probably the track of the album. When you listen to the album, this is the track that stands out, followed closely by Dead and Gone, which is just infectious with a great chorus. "I am what I am, and I don't give a damn what you say when your coming my way". You just have to identify with it.
Dogpound have built a reputation for being one of the best up and coming melodic metal bands, and with III they've done nothing but increase that reputation. The album has great pace from start to finish, it drags you along with it, and never drops the momentum that would make you want to get off.
