Dark Tranquility - Fiction

Editor rating

6.2

Title

Fiction

With an 18 year career behind them and more than a dozen albums to their credit, Dark Tranquility have yet again delivered superlative melodic Black Metal to their legion of fans in this opus.

Despite being VERY heavy, each melody is clearly discernable, lyrics intelligible (unlike many) and the multi-layered use of keyboard brings a genuine depth to each track. Superb. The vocal is at once brutal and sinister, yet gentle when required. Beautiful. It is easy to see why this band have topped the metal charts so often in their homeland of Sweden.

Sadly, I think it sounds like so much other Death Metal I've heard.

In addition, this CD has spawned one of the best Death Metal videos ever. Something to do with Lego… now that’s creativity!
