Title
You Can't Break The Chains
Malmo rockers Chains released 'You Can Never Break The Chains', there fourth official demo, back in January, and it almost sounds somewhat confusing, not that that's really a bad thing. If you take a cursory glance at the band, you'll most likely think that they are another of Sweden's gluttony of glam and/or sleaze bands. You might even walk away from giving them a listen because of it.
Strangely enough you'd be somewhat surprised when push comes to shove.
Certainly you can't argue that they have glam influences, but more importantly they seem to draw much heavier from more melodic rock acts, and I think this demo is going to curry more favour in that direction than with the more hardcore sleaze crowd, the title track specifically.
It's interesting to listen to, and of course to buck the trend, I can't help but think of Chains sounding like a more modern version of Dokken. I can almost visualise these guys hammering out 'Dream Warriors' during a live set.
All in all though, this is a pretty decent demo. It's not perfect, the band obviously still have work to do, but then that's why it's a demo right? The song quality is decent, while the production is nothing terrible either.
Give this one a spin if you like your rock melodic, you glam Dokkeny.
