With a host of international recognisable hits under his belt, it's not surprising that the new greatest hits collection from Billy Idol is packed to the rafters.
The Very Best of Billy Idol - Idolize Yourself contains 18 tracks in total, including all seven of Idol's top 10 hits in America. Tracks like White Wedding, Hot In The City and Rebel Yell are anthems the world over, and their inclusion is no surprise, but it's nice to see a collection that also includes tracks that might not have made it on another release.
Admittedly, there's not a huge deviation from Idol's last Hits compilation - 2001's Greatest Hits (Capitol Records) - but Idolize yourself is a superb introduction to one of the great crossover artists of our time.
There's two brand new tracks on here as well, which seems to be par for the course these days for a new Greatest Hits compilation, not that is really going to inspire any long term fans to pluck out for this record, but what might is the bonus DVD which contains 13 tracks, including the videos for the majority of the CD's tracks, including apparently unreleased versions of Hot In The City (Uncensored Version) and an extended version of Cradle of Love.
All in all this shapes up nicely, and is well worth picking up for anyone who doesn't own most of Idol's solo output, and possibly even for those that do for the bonus DVD.
