Title

Half Evil - Half Album

Slick's Kitchen are serving up a dish or two with some quality punk-n-roll goodness with their latest EP Half Evil - Half Album, a title which certainly appeals to me!

Formed only a year ago in 2007, 'Half Evil - Half Album' is the bands second release following from their debut album, but the first time I - like I suspect many - have come into contact with them. Production duties are left in the hands of drummer Haan Hartmann, and lets not beat around the bush, this man has some serious pedigree having worked with Doro and Sodom to name but two. You know this is gonna be Slick (no pun intended!).

The EP kicks off with a bass riff to die for which continues throughout 'Cum In My Kitchen' and offers those of us that are knew to the band a good idea of where the rest of the EP's tracks are going to take us. It's raw, but clean, which makes for a somewhat nice juxtaposition, and that becomes even more evident as the EP progresses. Here's The Day typifies this bass heavy, but melodic style, and Here I Am just hammers the idea home.

The band are currently out on the road support the punk legends The Damned, showing that this is certainly a band moving in the right direction, but it's a sound that is so reminiscent of another legendary band that really caught me by surprise. 'Good You're Gone' is just so Robert Smith and The Cure. I know that sounds mad but it really is, and somehow it works here, and I'd never have thought that was possible.

All in all, for my first introduction to these German boys, this is a solid release, and I'm expecting to be hearing more from them in the future.

And for the record, this might just be one of the best examples of album art this year! The photo here only tells you half the story, with the back telling the other half, but you'll have to go find out that bit for yourself!

If you like you're punk with a roll, your rock with a punkedge, then check these boys out. Things are only gonna get better!
