In their relatively short career, Newcastle based Beyond the Grave have notched up some notable achievements including bringing down the curtain on the first ever Hard Rock Hell festival in Minehead in November 2007. Now, after the release of two highly acclaimed EPs comes their first full length offering.

Opening song Down Amongst The Dead begins with a huge scream from singer Adam Jackson, whose powerful vocals perfectly fit the aggressive style of this very heavy album. Clocking in at over 7 mins, By The Light Of A Setting Sun is the first of several tracks that show off the bands ability to construct multi layered, melodic and hugely involving metal symphonies.

By the time Witness begins, you should be more than aware of the awesome power of Marc Jackson's drumming. The bass work here sounds especially meaty, the excellent production capturing perfectly the weight behind every kick.

Dead By September opens melodically and then returns to the power that is the heartbeat of Beyond The Grave, Before My Eyes giving another chance for Marc Jackson to pound the life out of a drum kit that by now must be begging for mercy.

Neatly complemented by James Shepherd's solid bass lines, Warwick Bennett and Luke Harrison work their guitars hard, every riff and solo thrown out with serious intent and producing some excellent harmonies along the way.

While it could be a little stronger lyrically, those lyrics are delivered with a real sense of power and are superbly sang. Throughout this album has stood comparison with bands like Testament and fans of the genre could do much worse than invest a few quid in this CD.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
