On tour, as Brian Johnson belted out songs from the AC/DC's new multi-platinum Black Ice album, he "couldn't wait" to come back to Sarasota to make a different type of musical history reports the Charlotte Sun. On Monday, the AC/DC frontman was welcomed by Sarasota Memorial Hospital president and CEO Gwen MacKenzie, Healthcare Foundation president and CEO Alex Quarles and Jennifer Mayer, medical director of All Children's at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, as they opened the new Brian Johnson Music Therapy Room.
Shortly after a press conference at SMH - which included area students, volunteers and Johnson's friend, Steve Luongo, formerly of the JOHN ENTWISTLE BAND - Johnson made concert-like noise on the fifth floor in the pediatric department. Luongo, Johnson, guitarist Mark Hitt and AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams recorded new material and toured to support Entwistle's foundation. Musical instruments, equipment and memorabilia were donated to Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation Inc. by the John Entwistle Foundation Inc. Entwistle was the late bassist of THE WHO. The primary mission of the foundation is to provide free music education to underserved children. Read more here.
