The New York Metro reports: It’s probably safe to say that few songwriters have been as singularly
obsessed with dwelling on the dark side as Glenn Danzig. Beginning with
the seminal horror-punk band the MISFITS, through the short-lived
occult-oriented goth-punk of SAMHAIN and finally through the foreboding
blues-metal of DANZIG, violence, devilry and subverted values have
ruled.
So Danzig might be the last person whose songs you’d expect to hear in
commercials in major sporting events, but his evil-Elvis voice has now
turned up during the World Series and the Super Bowl. He’s also had
songs recorded by JOHNNY CASH and ROY ORBISON, become a cartoon
character (on an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force) and started a comic
book publishing company.
Those are the sorts of odd incongruities that come with longevity,
and Danzig (the band) is now celebrating its twentieth anniversary. For
the occasion, they’re performing a set that moves chronologically
through each album, including a few surprises for longtime fans.
