Tobias Sammet has revealed that he is already working on the next Avantasia album following the success of the bands third album – The Scarecrow – which was released last year via Nuclear Blast Records, although fans shouldn't hold their breath for a quick release.
Sammet stated that he would take “all the time I need” on the production of the as yet untitled album, and that he was ready to “spend a fortune” to make certain that he was happy with the final result.
“This is not a rock-&-Roll-homestudio-project, we'll work with a choir, with a symphony orchestra and - no matter if the music-industry goes down the toilet - I'll spend a fortune on creating the whole thing” he said.
Sammet also revealed that some of those close to him have warned him about the dangers of investing so much time and money in the project, especially given the current state of the music industry, and he revealed that while he agreed with this point of view, he didn't feel that it was relevant.
“Do you consider it extremely reasonable to shoot a man into space? It's unreasonable to spend money for whatever, life itself is unreasonable, because - believe it or not - in the end it's quite often pretty lethal. I am rather unreasonable and therefore unsad.”
Sammet has made no mention as yet of any potential guests for the album, but it would be fair to expect that the vocalist will assemble a collection of some of the biggest names in the rock and metal world, especially if 'The Scarecrow' is anything to go by.
The album featured appearances by Roy Khan (Kamelot), Bob Catley (Magnum), Jorn Lande, Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray), Rudolf Schenker (Scorpions) and the legendary Alice Cooper to name but a few.
'The Scarecrow' was a commercial success in Sammet's native Germany, with the album landing at #8 on the German Charts, spawned a top ten single with Lost In Space, and received an award for Best Rock Production 2008 by the German association of sound engineers (VDT).
Whether the bands next album will be able to replicate the previous success only time will tell.
