lespaul.jpgCBC News reports that Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame plans to salute musician Les Paul as an American Music Master, an award which began in 1996 to pay tribute to artists who helped change American culture.

Paul, already an inductee into the Rock Hall of Fame, is considered the "father of the electric guitar" for his invention of the solid-body instrument used by a new generation of musicians.

A tribute concert to Paul is scheduled for Nov. 15 at the State Theater in Cleveland and a week of events is planned to honour his work.

Artists have yet to be announced, but likely candidates include Peter Frampton, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton who appeared with Paul on his 2005 recording Les Paul and Friends: American Made, World Played.

Paul, 93, says he expects to make it to the tribute concert. He still plays weekly at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York.
