Fan filmed footage of QUEENSRŸCHE's performance at last years Rocklahoma festival has been posted online and can be viewed below.
As previously repoted, Queensryche will perform the entirety of their Operation: Mindcrime I and II
albums for the very first time in the UK via a 10-date June 2008 UK
tour. This epic theatrical prog metal extravaganza will take in 3
hours, and will include an intermission, and in addition to the core
members of the band, will feature actors re-enacting the storyline
behind both of these compelling albums.
“This is the first time we’ve performed the entirety of Operation: Mindcrime I and II in the UK, so I think fans are going to be in for a
real treat,” says Queensrÿche’s frontman and singer Geoff Tate.
In 2006 the band performed the entirety of both albums on a tour of
North America to sell out audiences. The marathon show included a full
over-the-top, theatrical production complete with surround sound, video
imagery and actors portraying the concept albums’ characters onstage,
as they were originally intended.
In the grand tradition of all captivating theatrical rock extravaganzas
(The Who’s Tommy, and Pink Floyd’s The Wall), Queensrÿche’s Operation:
mindcrime I and II, is not just a typical rock’n’roll concert. Combined
with the core members of the band, the production is a totally
explosive and highly absorbing theatrical rock experience with actors
re-enacting the storylines from both albums.
Queensrÿche originally released Operation: Mindcrimein 1988. Praised by
critics and certified platinum, the album was an acclaimed success
remaining on Billboard’s Top 200 for more than a year. In 2006 the band
released a long-awaited sequel to their magnum opus to critical and
commercial success. The album debuted at #14 on the Top 200, their
highest debut in over a decade.
Operation: Mindcrime follows an intriguing and complex plot that
revolves around Dr. X, a political puppet master who brainwashes the
story’s main character, Nikki, to assassinate corrupt public figures.
The story also includes Nikki’s lover, Sister Mary. A former teenage
prostitute who becomes a nun, Sister Mary is murdered mysteriously,
leaving the cliffhanger “Who Killed Sister Mary?”
Set twenty years after the original, Operation: Mindcrime II explores
Nikki’s fate after being released from prison and reveals the identity
of Mary’s killer. The album centers on revenge and what it does to
people, their emotions and the choices they make.
“This concert is the realisation of an idea that began nearly two
decades ago,” says Tate. “The story and music of Operation: mindcrime
is very dear to the band. We are thrilled with this performance and
proud to bring it to the UK for the very first time. I think the
theatrical intensity of the 3-hour long concert will blow audiences
away.”
In June 2007, Rhino released a live DVD of Queensrÿche’s epic
performance in front of the quintet’s hometown crowd at the Moore
Theatre in Seattle. Released as a double DVD and double CD, ‘Mindcrime
at the Moore’ includes singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate along
with guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson
and drummer Scott Rockenfield performing all 32 mindcrime tracks plus a
two-song encore featuring the hits “Jet City Woman” and “Walk In The
Shadows.”
