Jam! Music reports that just like Nostradamus -- the 16th-century prophet whose controversial
life and times inspired Judas Priest's new double-disc concept album --
we've got a little prediction for all you heavy metal fans who attended
last night's show.
That prediction? You are totally going to love this review.
But hey -- don't thank us. Credit, as always, goes to the headliners
themselves, who turned in a suitably rocking, sometime epic two-hour
set stacked with hits from throughout their near-40-year career.
And thankfully, they kept the Nostradamus stuff to a minimum
(not to harsh your buzz there, fans, but that disc comes dangerously
close to Spinal Tap territory).
So aside from opening number Prophecy, halfway-point marker
Death, and a backdrop depicting the famed seer as a disembodied head
(with glowing eyes, yet) the Priest crew were content to send fans home
happy by offering up versions of past hits that were at once lived-in
and startlingly fresh.
Now speaking of fans, it was a bit jarring to see the MTS
Centre so sparsely attended last night (official reports put ticket
sales at 5,000, but from where we sitting, that figure looked to have
been of by at least a thousand).
Maybe everyone got their metal fix at last
month's Iron Maiden show, or maybe they're all still out at the cabin,
but whatever the case, those who did decide to show up were richly
rewarded for their loyalty.
