glennhughes.jpgThe Birkenhead News reports that memorabilia stolen from the walls of Birkenhead’s Hotel California has been returned after reading saw last week’s Nightlife Guide.

Owners Nicky and Chunky told the News the article has elicited an “amazing response” and not only have items been returned, but musicians have been donating new memorabilia as an act or solidarity.

Last week, we reported how Hotel California cleaner, Netty noticed the walls becoming decidedly less busy and after investigating early photos of the space, confirmed that several things had been pilfered.

Among them were a “Life Bomb” framed picture disc, green clock, Boothill Saloon mirror, Jagermeister sign and a white and gold hand pump.

But now Nicky says the items are coming in through the door, rather than the other way round.
She said: “It’s been an amazing response from the Wirral News readers.

“Even one of the staff at my dentist asked me if we had got our stuff back after she had read it in the paper.

“I was happy to say that yes, we have had some of it back.

“The Boothill Saloon Mirror and the handpump have both been returned.

“What’s even better though is the response from other musicians who have played at the Hotel California.

“We are getting offers of signed merchandise and all sorts so that we can fill in the gaps on the memorabilia wall.”

Among the new delights set to take pride of place are signed posters and CDs from GLENN HUGHES (ex-DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH).

Glenn said: “Chunky helped me professionally on the last UK tour and it’s the least I could do.”
