Cynic Involved In Mistaken Identity With Wacken Booking Print E-mail

cynic.jpgUK based NWOBHM band Cynic have become the victim of an apparent case of mistaken identity at best with regard to their proposed appearance at this years Wacken Open Air Festival, and teh bands drummer Tim Batkin is less than happy with the way the situation has been handled by the festivals promoters.

Comments Batkin "German people have an enviable and just reputation for thoroughness and attention to detail, so it is very disappointing to report that during negotiations for Cynic to play at Wacken (including telephone conversations to and from England), that whilst they booked and promoted a "British heavy metal band from Worcester, England", they (Wacken organizer Thomas) believed he had entered into contract with a thrash metal band from the US."

How this situation developed is unknown, but Batkin continues by noting that once this apparent error was uncovered by the promoter he quickly took steps to remove the British band from the Festival's lineup. "Dear Thomas (ever the promoter professional), when he realised his error (well, in fact, he sent our team a link to Wikipedia of Cynic U.S. and asked if that was us), and when receiving the negative response, binned us from the show."

Batkin concludes with an apology to the bands fans that had been expecting to see them at Wacken this year, and a request for anyone who might be able to help the band set up an alternate concert. " So, sorry, guys, we won't be playing. If anyone could suggest another venue, we would be all ears to come and play. In the meantime, and putting this distraction behind us, we will crack on with the album and get it out to you."

Hello,

Hello,

There are samples of all the tracks of the latest Cynic album, "Biblical Flood", on you tube. The NWoBHM band recorded the album at Rockfield Recording Studio, (RUSH Hemispheres, and AFTK albums, and Motorhead AOS album) with Matt Butler, former AIR Montserrat engineer who was credited on Rush HYF and PW albums, who has also worked with Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Gary Moore, Dire Straits, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath.

I know it's a tad late to respond now, but you can't really blame the organisers, or whoever made the mistake. Having two bands with the same name leaves much room for mistakes. If you aren't willing to change your band name, then you should expect to have to deal with this sort of thing from time to time.
