pornopararicardo.jpgAccording to CBC News, a Cuban punk rocker has escaped jail after he was convicted of a lesser charge of public disorder instead of a more serious accusation of "social dangerousness."

Gorki Aguila was tried in court in Havana on Friday for his lyrics which criticize Fidel Castro.

The court dismissed the more serious charge, which would have landed the singer in jail for four years, and instead, ordered him to pay 600 pesos ($30 CDN) and released him.

"I am very proud of all the people who have supported me, and I feel even more hate for this tyranny," Aguila declared to reporters after the two-hour trial.

Social dangerousness is a charge levied on those that violate "communist morality." It's frequently used by Cuban authorities to detain would-be offenders before they have a chance to commit a crime.
