anthrax-newsinger.jpgSpeaking to PunkTV.ca, new Anthrax vocalist Dan Nelson has said that the bands upcoming album "is going to tear people apart." The interview also covered Nelson's recent appointment as the bands new vocalist, how it has changed his every day life and his impressions on the departure of former singer Joey Belladonna. Several excerpts are included below.

PunkTV.ca: You must be on top of the world right now.

Dan Nelson: Oh yeah man. It’s fucking great and I am loving life right now. I went from waking up everyday and fucking getting up and trying to earn a dollar and now I wake up every day psyched and ready to go.

PunkTV.ca: Well not just that: I was thinking about it and you also have the biggest and best metal publicist in the world working this new development and that is Adrenaline. Of course, that means that they have probably had you working day and night doing interviews with everybody to get the word out.

Dan Nelson: Yeah, Maria is awesome and they have me going pretty hardcore but, you know what, it’s all good and there is no where else in the world that I would rather be. This is it; this is ground zero for me and let’s work. I am telling you brother, Anthrax is going to put people in a whirlwind in 2008. People aren’t going to know what hit them, again. This new album is going to tear people apart.

PunkTV.ca: Before we get to that everybody is probably really excited to learn more about you. Why don’t you tell us how this all happened; we have all heard varying reports on how you met up with Rob so why don’t you tell us from your own words.

Dan Nelson: I met Rob back in the day, maybe 2002, and he was producing bands like he still is, and he was checking out a band I was in called Unbroken. Flash forward to last year: my wife had gone through some rough surgery for her heart and I had been out of the serious music scene for a while to take care of her and when I got back looking for a real band I went on MySpace and found Rob. His name just came to my mind and I went, “I wonder what Rob is doing”, and he was doing a reunion tour to get the original [Anthrax] line up going. I had no idea they weren’t working together anymore and I just contacted Rob to just jam and he told me “it’s funny you contacted me because I have a band going right now that needs a singer”, and he’s like “send me some stuff”. So I sent him some of my tracks and he dug them a lot, he told me to call them and I’m sure you’ve read that he asked me what rock I was hiding under and that whole story. We got together and worked on some tunes for that project he was doing and long story short he told me that I would be a great fit for Anthrax. And I said, “are you serious, Anthrax is looking for a singer?”, and he said, “yeah man, for a while now”, and I said “I’d love to”. So I auditioned and here we are.

PunkTV.ca: The big question that everyone would love to ask, and I know that you may not have the answer, is: what happened to Joey this time around? We just saw him out with the band last year, and we’re glad to have you on board, but people would probably be curious to know what happened to Joey Belladonna.

Dan Nelson: Well, as far as I know all things are still good with them and, who knows, they might still do another classic reunion tour down the line, which would be awesome from a fans perspective; I would be there front row and center. I don’t know the exact details of what went down but I know that they are talking and on speaking terms and things are cool, but I guess it just didn’t work out for whatever reasons. You know how it is, you know the scene, you know one thing changes the next. I know Joey is doing well with his solo project and Anthrax is ready to move forward with a different direction so I really couldn’t answer that honestly because I really don’t know too much about it.
