The Erotics Mike Trash Would Dearly Love To Drop His DNA In Your Mouth... But He Wants It Back Afterwards Print E-mail

theerotics"I want to drop my DNA in your mouth but I want it back," is definitely a Mike Trash thing to say … what did I expect from the Sleaze Meister himself?  I certainty knew that I was guttering myself when I agreed to do this interview but a comment like that even gave me a bit of a shut.the.fuck.up for one of the first times ever.

And from there on out what could you expect from New York's (Finest) Sons? On the road supporting their latest album 'Rubbish' and talk of DNA sharing, and a distinct lack of concern to the outside world made for interesting times!

'Rubbish', what a fucking album!

(The band then go into many different vocals on the word 'rubbish')

Talk me through the writing process and where you drew your inspiration from in writing this album.

Mike Trash (vocals):  We had just got done with 'All that glitters is dead' and we decided decided to make another record straight away.  The songs all came very naturally and the lyrics just rolled off the tongue.  The inspirations are just from being pissed off and frustrated really.

In your top scoring 8.8/10 review of 'Rubbish' that I did, I said, “had it not been for the sleaze meisters themselves, all the infectious tunes, massive riffs and sarcasm would totally be lost in reality”.  Would you agree with this or what would you add to it?

Billy Beer (bass):  (laughing) We are lost.

Mike:  (laughing)  Reality is lost.

Rachel Toxic (guitars):  (laughing)  We're not musicians, we're magicians.

You got some brilliant reviews on it overall.

Johnny Riott (guitars):  There was only one bad review so far, Metal Hammer.

It's only Metal Hammer though, what do they know?

Rachel:  It wasn't even that bad you know.

Johnny:  You can't have it all good.

Bad press is good press I guess.  The erotics span 2 decades.  From then to now you're getting sleazier, dirtier and even better looking.  What or where do you find your inspirations and motivations?

Mike:  I'm blushing (laughs)

Johnny:  It keeps me young (laughs).  I'm just a complete fucking loser and I cant do anything else so there you go, that is my motivation (everyone laughs).

Mike:  Suckers for punishment you know.

Johnny:  Seriously, I just like doing it.  Sometimes I need to take a break and I do but I always come back.

It's been 6 years since VH1 contacted you (indicating Mike) about fronting Velvet Revolver.  They're back in search of another front man.  If they were to contact you again would your decision change?

Mike:  It wasn't Velvet Revolver at the time.  They were putting together a reality TV show.  Well, it never happened but it would've been fun I guess.  They wanted a Scott Weiland kind of guy but I'm just not that type of guy or a Mick Jagger kind of guy and I had to have a guitar in my hands so …. (pauses for a few seconds) its either that or I have to have something else in my hands (everyone laughs).  It would've been fun writing songs with them though.

You once said that there has to be a worst gig and sometimes playing 10 nights in a row, you're drained and you don't put 100% into it and people get the wrong impression about you.  Don't you feel that you owe it to your fans to always give 100% at a gig or on the flip side, do less gigs in order to achieve this?

Johnny:  We always give them a show (laughing)

Mike:  We shouldn't do it but the promoter booked us so many gigs and my voice blew out.

So its the promoters fault?

Billy:  You always give 100% anyway.

Mike:  We never do 10 dates in a row anymore.  6 or 7 tops.

What is erotic about the erotics?

Mike:  Nothing

Johnny:  And everything (everyone laughs).  That's for the customer to decide I guess.  Behind the scenes are very erotic and you can try and prove us wrong on that one.

So would you say that erotic is what is looking from the stage to the audience or what it is like looking from the audience to the stage?

Johnny:  Yeah (everyone laughs)

Which one is it?  Is it what the audience is seeing looking at the stage or what you're seeing looking back at them?

Mike:  Probably a bit of both

Johnny:  Maybe it's what's in our head, I don't know.  I don't think they want to know though (laughs)

One of the best quotes I've ever heard is 'Forget about the rumours that you've heard, tonight's going to end in a 4 letter word'.  Can you tops that one for me?

Mike:  That's from a song.

Can you top it for me?  Come on, lets have a bit of progress here – there is progress in everything.

Billy:  Its one word that were saying, its called (screaming) Rubbish (laughs).  You don't need so many words anymore, you just need to yell and that is a great word to yell.

Rachel:  The only thing that can top that is hangovers and wheelchairs.

Why?  What is a squeal chair?  ( I had heard this word a few times from various people when mentioning The Erotics name but had never had a clear definition of it)

Johnny:  (laughing) I thought you would've asked that earlier.  A squeal chair is basically a wheelchair with bigger wheels on it.  It's more fun.

Mike:  We are concerned for the handicaps, we want them to have more fun.  We want them to ride in style you know.  Wheelchairs are boring.

Billy:  Everything just comes from a play on words really.  You start with one word and you just keep on going and going until you laugh your ass off and it sticks you know.

Johnny:  This band is the worlds biggest inside joke (everyone laughs).

What is your reality?  Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll or something more mundane?

Billy:  It is all that but its not all that, you have to take a break you know.

Johnny:  We only do that a few times a week.  We also do the laundry and wash dishes (everyone laughs)

Billy:  Everything has its place cause if you just do sex, drugs and rock and roll all the time it gets boring and you wont want to do it and you just get crazy so this way (laughs) every time is like doing it for the first time.

Do it but do it better

Billy:  Yeah you get it.  This way you do it a little bit and let it build up until it explodes.

Crash and burn?

Billy:  Exactly, go big or go home.

Finally, what can we be expecting from you in the future?

Mike:  I've got a lot of stuff written but for now were just going to play up until the summer and then take it day by day.

Are you doing any festivals this summer?

Billy:  (laughing) If anyone asks us.

Mike:  We have some LA dates for July along with some New York dates.
