This is Dave at Hard Rock Hell talking to Immanis who
are Scotland's latest and finest. They are Bramus, Mikey, Hammy and Casey.
Those who braved the Young Blood stage at Hard Rock Hell first thing on Friday
afternoon were privy to their soaring intense assault on the senses.
Dave - Now you gents opened the festival yesterday on the Young Blood stage, and proved incredibly popular. Some people felt you should have been higher up the bill. After you left the stage, the auditorium emptied and the bands that followed you only played to a fraction of the crowd that you did.
Mikey - We had one of the biggest crowds of the day at that stage. There were a lot of bands on after us on other stages and I think people went off to see them.
D - So what have you been up to this year?
M - This year's been great for us. In June we played a two week tour in England and Scotland, followed by a 2 week tour with the guys from Beyond the Grave, who are also playing Hard Rock Hell. We've met a lot of cool people and made a lot of contacts, this interview being a result of that. Then we were on Metal Hammer's last cover mounted CD. It's been brilliant, constant and rapid. This has given us a much better profile.
D - Do you think this festival is a good opportunity for new bands?
M - Yes, and it's a great venue. I spoke to some of the organisers, and they've said that they'll get a lot of the teething problems out of the way this year to make it better next year. It's been a pleasure thus far.
D - It's pretty well organised here compared to most festivals.
M - It's like a weekend holiday at Butlins with no bastard children!
Bramus - And you can have breakfast with Girlschool!
M - And we showed Tesla how to get to breakfast! The chalet thing is quite unique. You can sit and chill with proper beds and showers. Our first tour was playing in a car park, so we're definitely going up in the world. Then we had a bus, now we have a village!
D - What's next? The whole holiday camp? (Laughs)
D - What's the history of the band?
M - Technically the bands only been around for a year and a half now since summer 2006. The inspiration and the idea for the music has existed since August 2005. It was Bramus's project then he brought in Hammy for a laugh. Then I bullied them into releasing the beast. Our other bands split up at the time. We got together and Bramus played guitar for our band and it went on from there.
Bramus - Casey was originally a drummer but, as we already had a drummer he learnt the bass.
M - We tell him he's along for the ride.
D - So you've been on a Metal Hammer compilation CD
M - Yeah, the Hard Rock Hell compilation.
D - So what's the reaction been to that?
M - Well, the problem is that as it was a VCD, some CD players had trouble reading the disc, so most people think our song was actually Saxon's!
D - Are you signed?
M - No
D - So are you going the label based route to distributing your music?
M - We've got our website set up so we can get our stuff out there, and I technically manage the band and handle all the networking and book all the tours and stuff. Plus I drive, so I end up driving the tour bus.
D - Will you go for a label eventually?
B - I'm very cautious of labels, I dont want to go for any shitty deal and want someone who will promote us, not just not a distribution deal. I've seen too many mate's bands sign to small labels and disappear.
M - We'll just keep doing what we're doing until we can find someone who'll let us do it our way. In a year we've achieved a lot, but we'll achieve even more next year. People keep on coming to us all the time, there are other bands we're talking about touring with next year. We're hoping to get download next year, as that will really raise our profile. Plus there are two Finnish bands we're touring with next year as well.
D - So youre getting together to with some Finnish bands. Have you any plans to go overseas to tour?
M - If we tour the UK next year, we hope to move across into France and the Netherlands. Plus we hoped to hit Denmark at some point. That's the plan anyway.
D - You had a good reaction yesterday. Who have you been impressed by at this festival?
M - We caught a few songs from Forever Never and they were really awesome, really tight. They were on the same Metal Hammer compilation as us and they were the only other band I enjoyed. They were so tight, it was amazing. And Lauren Harris...
Hammy - I was the only one who liked Cradle of Filth.
M - The band's OK, it's just him I don't like.
D - I'll defend Dani there. I dropped my notes in the press area yesterday and he picked them up for me.
M - I was going to give him a second chance but then he made a racist remark about kilts last night. One of our fans was wearing a kilt last night. So maybe he (Dani) could come and meet us, have a beer with us and we'll sort it all out in a friendly fashion. (laughs)
D - So what does the next year hold for you?
M - Just do what we did this year, just bigger. And a shit load of recording. We're going into the studio in December to do some recording. Bramus and Hammy are going to be busy over Christmas so we wont have much time to get together. We'll bring them up some turkey. in January 2008 we go on a mini tour around Wales, Devon and then back towards Minehead. We have quite a big fan base down here. That's the plan, but we want to put out new songs before we start hitting Europe.
B - Plus me and Hammy are full time students
H - So there's a limited amount of time to do these things.
M - The rest of us work so also only have twenty or thirty days off.
D - I'm sure the band will be a future source of income.
M - I hope so too!
D - So any last words?
M - Hammy is gay. (laughs)
D - On that note, I will say thanks to Immanis for giving us their time.
