Ciao Boys... The Road To Vegas With Lizhard Print E-mail

lizhardmyspaceFrom time to time, press releases and promo material come in thick and fast about a band, at just the right time, says Krissy Stixx. As I sit gazing blearily at my desk over coffee in a morning, occasionally the email throws up a band name enough times for me to notice – and then I wake up a bit and investigate. LIZHARD (named after an old joke from an old incarnation of the band) hail from a small place near Milan in Italy. They started the Rocky road as a covers band circa 1995, went through a few line-up changes and arrived at their current recipe around 2005 after recording an Italian-language EP and admitting it was really not their style. But then, there's no longer a band member called Liz, and they don't sound all that hard to me either so...

So what is their style then? Well since the 2008 release of their self-titled debut album, Lizhard have become known for preserving the warmth and also grit of a classic 80's and 90's Rock sound... with Luke Marsilio on vocals also playing acoustic guitar and harmonica, you already know this will be bluesy and gorgeous. I'm cracking open a beer already...

The band are planning a short autumn trip to the UK, meeting up with friends old and new. I thought an email might let us get friendly too.. Luca “Ze” Moroni (bass) and Ricky Lecchini (drums) are the guys responsible for forming this Italian quartet which is completed by Paul Mainetti on guitar. I had no idea who would get the email... eventually came “ZE” answer...

Can you remember why you wanted to be in a band, back in the beginning?

Ze: Because we all love music and our dream has always been to play in a band!

Which other musicians are your greatest influences (please answer individually for each band member if possible). Can you see those influences in your music, or do you think you have a totally fresh sound?

No, we don’t have and don’t want to have a fresh sound, there's nothing to invent nowadays...we just play what we feel and what we like. We love all 70's and 80's Rock and Hard Rock and we grew up with bands such as Rolling Stones, Eagles, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi... so it's easy: we just play what we feel and what we like!

Do you feel as a band you are doing everything you want to do right now? Is there anything you would change?

Yes, we want more, but we're happy about the way we work.

Do you feel it is as important to release a CD these days as it used to be? Is downloading music the way forward, in which case how does a band hope to make money?

Fortunately there still are kids that buy Cds.We think that it's OK to download free music, but if you like an album you should buy it and support the band. Otherwise in 10 years' time there wouldn’t be any bands! On the other hand it's not so right to find out your album is downloadable free after one week from the release date!

Is music still the soundtrack to our lives? Do you think people respond differently to music these days, do they want something different from it?

It is! People are just having a different approach (is that correct in English? lol) [That's bang on, dude! K] ..People that love music still love it.

What can you give people, as a band, that no-one else can? Why should we care?

Our music! Lizhard's songs!

What is the single most important thing about you as band that will make you international superstars? Why?

The voice of Luke Marsilio!..then the great friendship we transmit during our shows..and well our music, as I said before...

If you had a day off tomorrow and all the money in the world, what would you do (each band member please) Why would you choose that?

Mmm..we would all be playing another gig instead of taking a day-off because we love to play! Second..we would be in Las Vegas with 8 Playboy girls... [greedy..]

Finally, why do we want to buy your CD/ go to your shows???

We don't want to tell you what to do or not to do! Just check us out and if you like our music, buy the CD and support us! Why should you go to our shows? This is even easier: because it's a fuckin' rockin' experience, live... We'll kick your ass for sure! :))

Thanks guys! [Well, Ze...]

Thanks to you and to your readers! See you in the UK! Rock on!

Thanks to Ze of Lizhard for responding.... I can't decide if I'm any the wiser, but I do know that influences like that make me want to check them out Go along for a beer and a listen at the following dates, and check them out on MySpace: www.myspace.com/lizhardband .Krissy x
