An Introduction To... Scarlet Violet Print E-mail

scarletviolet.jpgMilan's Scarlet Violet released their debut EP in 2006, and were all set to release their debut album this year. With that in mind, we took the chance to catch up with the band and find out more, only to find out that the bands recently signed record deal had fallen by the wayside, with their debut album put back while they searched for a new deal.

Scarlet Violet are not about to let that stop them though.

Komodo Rock: For those that are new to Scarlet Violet, can you give us a little background on the band?

L.A. (Vocals): The band was born in the summer of 2005 and it sums up our passion for this genre. Three of the band members came from a metal band and having spent 5 years in that band, they decided to move on to the Hard Rock genre.

How did the name come about?

L.A.: Honestly we were so drunk and it was early in the morning and all that we thought of was two colours and put them together.

After all they're two colours that go well with our music and sound good together, don't they?

Your recently signed a deal with American Label Blastzone Ent. How did that come about?

L.A.: We would rather not answer this question since its been a couple of days since we no longer work with them and we'd rather keep the reasons we left them private, purely for professional reasons. We're currently looking for a new label or a distribution company.

Your debut album is set for a 2008 release, have you finished recording it yet?

L.A.: Because of the above answer, album recording will be postponed but it will however see the light in 2008. We've already got 15 songs lined up and all plans are set. This will give us time to perfect our songs more so.

Could you talk us through some of the tracks that are set to appear on the album?

L.A.: They're going to be about real life situations and experiences we've gone through. They'll have a sleazy touch while others will be bubblegumish, but they'll always be kick-ass tunes! This album will make you wanna party once you hear it!

Fedexx (Bass): I totally agree with L.A. I can only say that there will be an alternation of fast songs (meaning 80s sounding party songs) to darker ones to songs that are the kind you listen to in the company of a beautiful chick!

NK (Drums): It's like a meeting between Nasty Idols and Big Bang Babies!

The new album will followup on this years Ready To Rock EP. Can you tell us a little more about the EP and the tracks on it?

sv-la.jpgL.A.: The EP was a test and seeing the reactions to it we can say that it went really well! With a low budget we released a good cd. We tried to put all our 80s musical influences together with something that came close to the mid-90s era.

Its sound may seem banal and so yesterday but it's what we wanted and we can't see ourselves playing anything else.

Fedexx: This EP is the result of our emotions and our passion. We put all our ideas together to come up with something that would skyrocket us into the Hard Rock reality.

NK: As far as song themes are concerned, we decided to go with the typical themes of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll, but to approach these themes in a more philosophical and enraged way.

Any plans to play any dates in the UK in the near future?

L.A.: As far as we're concerned we'd play there tomorrow. But for a small band and Italian at that, it's kinda hard! We're doing everything we can and not in the near future but soon we'll be coming to the UK!

You've also just announced details of a mini tour of the US in 2008. Any plans to expand on the already announced dates?

L.A.: For the moment we've fixed three gigs. The aim is to play about 8 gigs throughout North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Smashed Alley will be accompanying us and are helping us organize further gigs. Be warned: All Hell Will Break Loose when we hit the States!!!! It's almost ironic that we'll be playing in the US before touring Europe but this at the moment seems easier to us! It's definitely be a huge challenge for us to play in the country where Rock 'n' Roll was born!

Has myspace been a big help to the band? What about other online sources?

L.A.: 100% myspace! It definitely helped us to get our music out, without it we wouldn't be talking to you right now! As far as we're concerned myspace pages have become more important than actual websites, because it's more direct and allows you to get to know bands and music in a more immediate way!

How is the local rock scene in Milan? Has it been easy for you to build a following?

Fedexx: I think that the R'n'R scene in Italy but especially in Milan sucks big time, because in this country if you don't play mainstream or MTV music you won't get anywhere. As far as a following goes, people abroad know more about us because here in Italy they prefer big concerts or tribute bands and they don't care for young and upcoming bands!

L.A. : There never was and there never will be a Rock scene in Italy! Here certain genres will never be taken into consideration but we're totally cool with that, even though it can get frustrating at times. We have an international sound and mentality and will always be this way. We'll always look abroad.

NK: Personally I think that Italy does have good bands, the problem is the good ones are just not given a chance and they are forced to struggle to get themselves known.

Put on the spot, which 3 bands have influenced the band the most?

sv-lafeddex.jpgFedexx: This is a hard question because we have been influenced by many different bands, some don't even belong to the genre we play. All I can say is that Faster Pussycat, Pretty Boy Floyd and Poison taught us a valuable music lesson.

L.A. : OMG! Let me start by saying that Elvis taught us everything we know. Guns 'n' Roses, the best band in history and there's no need to say anymore. From Alleycat Scratch to Faster Pussycat from Big Bang Babies to Peppermint Creeps and Wednesday 13.

NK: The guys kinda summed it up well. They forgot to mention a strong W.A.S.P. influence, Blackie we love you! The cool thing about this band is that we all listen to different styles of music and that allows each member to bring a different element to the SV sound.

If you could put together your dream 3 band tour, who'd you pick?

Fedexx: Ratt, W.A.S.P. and L.A. Guns

L.A.: I've been waiting for one band since the day I was born: GUNS 'N' ROSES!!!!!

NK: Well, Savatage, Virgin Steele and Journey! It might seem strange but I'm a metalhead at heart! At the end of the day these are Rock 'n' Roll too if you pay close attention to them!

Other than yourselves, who do you rate as the best up and coming rock band out there?

Fedexx: OMG! I wouldn't know because I think there are so many great sounding bands therefore I wouldn't know where to begin. I can only say that these bands should be given more room, yet till MTV is around...

L.A.: Any three bands from Scandinavia! It's incredible how this scene is able to spawn such amazing bands that it would almost be embarrassing to name one rather than another. We also keep an eye on the UK scene but I don't want to name drop.

NK: I totally agree with L.A. and Fedexx, enough said!

Let us know any important web links and where we can buy your stuff.

L.A.: Soon we'll be setting up a paypal account so that people will be able to buy our material and upcoming merchandise, of course since the album is going to be delayed and because of other issues, we'll have to re-think everything through!

Scarlet Violet thanks you for having taken time out to talk us on Komodo Rock, we've heard that the UK rock scene is totally buzzing, keep it up and hope to see you all soon, we're always Ready To Rock!

A big thank you to Scarlet Violet for taking the time to talk with us, and all of us here at Komodo Rock hope that they manage to secure new distribution for their debut album in the near future. We'll keep you posted with news on that as soon as we hear it.

Until then, check the band out on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/scarletviolet
